Volunteers wanted — from the Northern Rivers to the Riverina

The NSW campaign will be built by volunteers, and we're recruiting now — in Sydney, on the coasts, and right across the regions. An hour a month genuinely helps.

Every Democrats campaign ever run has been powered by volunteers — people who gave an afternoon at a stall, a spare evening to a phone bank, or a corner of their garage to a box of corflutes. As the NSW division builds towards the March 2027 state election, we’re putting the call out properly: we want volunteers everywhere from the Northern Rivers to the Riverina.

And we do mean everywhere. Sydney matters, but the Legislative Council is elected by the whole state voting as one — a conversation in Lismore, Dubbo, Wagga Wagga, Bega or Broken Hill counts exactly as much as one in Newtown. A party that only campaigns within sight of the Harbour Bridge isn’t campaigning in New South Wales.

What volunteering actually looks like:

  • Community stalls — a table, a banner, good conversations at your local market. We provide the kit and pair newcomers with experienced members.
  • Local organising — being the contact point for your town or region as the network grows.
  • Online help — graphics, writing, spreadsheets, tech. Plenty of our best volunteering happens from a kitchen table.
  • Election-day roles — closer to the date, handing out how-to-vote cards and scrutineering. Training provided long before you’re needed.

You don’t need experience, you don’t need to be a political tragic, and you don’t need to commit your weekends. An hour a month from many hands beats heroics from a few. You don’t even need to be a paid-up member to start — though the free Supporter tier takes a minute and gets you on the list.

Training days and meet-ups are being scheduled now across Sydney and the regions — keep an eye on the events page, with Parramatta and Newcastle dates already in the works.

Ready to lend a hand? Sign up to volunteer and tell us where you are and what you enjoy doing. We’ll take it from there.
