The Australian Democrats step up in New South Wales

The NSW division is building the team, the platform and the campaign machinery for the state election on Saturday 13 March 2027 — and there's a place in it for you.

For almost fifty years the Australian Democrats have had one job: keep the bastards honest. In New South Wales, that job is now getting the organisation it deserves.

The NSW division is stepping up. Over the coming months we’re building the membership base, the local networks and the campaign machinery to give this state a genuine, sensible, evidence-led alternative at the next state election — Saturday 13 March 2027.

That date matters. NSW elections run to a fixed four-year clock, so there is no guessing game and no excuse: we know exactly how long we have, and we intend to use every week of it.

What stepping up actually looks like:

  • Members first. Policy in this party is written by members, not handed down by a leader’s office. Every person who joins now helps shape what we take to the ballot.
  • A real ground game. Stalls, meet-ups and training days across Sydney and the regions — watch the events page as dates are locked in.
  • A platform worth reading. Practical positions on integrity, tolls, innovation, water and the environment, built on evidence rather than focus-group panic. More on this soon.

We’re not promising to run the state after one election. We’re promising something more useful: representatives who read every bill, vote on the merits, and treat the public interest as the whole point rather than a talking point.

If you’ve ever said “surely there’s something between the two big parties” — there is, and it’s rebuilding in NSW right now. Membership starts at free with the Supporter tier and takes about a minute. Join us, and let’s give New South Wales a crossbench worth having.
