Our focus in New South Wales
A practical voice for New South Wales.
For decades the Australian Democrats have stood for sensible, community-focused politics and accountability in government. In New South Wales, we are bringing that same approach to the issues that matter most to everyday people.
Too often the public conversation feels divided and dominated by political point-scoring rather than progress. We believe there is a better way — one focused on practical problem solving, listening to the community, and developing sensible policies that improve everyday life. Our goal is to bring a balanced, thoughtful voice back into NSW politics — from Sydney to the regions — and focus on solutions that genuinely work for people and communities.
Where we stand in New South Wales
On the ballot for your council. Not yet for your state.
The Democrats are already a registered choice at New South Wales council elections. Getting onto the state ballot is the next step — and in NSW that step is measured in members.
- Where we are Registered for local government
The Australian Democrats are officially registered to contest local government elections right across New South Wales — so at council elections, you can already vote for us.
- What's next State registration takes members
To put Democrats on the ballot for the NSW Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, the party has to be registered with the NSW Electoral Commission — and that threshold is counted in members.
- How you help Joining is the whole ask
Supporter membership is free and still counts you in the NSW Division. If you can give more, a paid membership adds your vote in the ballots that decide our policies and candidates.
